The Australian golf team has dominated day three of the inaugural Four Nations Cup at The Hills, opening up a 14-shot lead over New Zealand in what looks to be the defining day of the tournament.
Brett Drewitt fired the low round of the tournament with a seven under par 65 backed up by Todd Sinnott's 66 as they climbed into first and second place on the individual standings respectively.
Australia's third counting score came from Maverick Antcliffe's 72 for a 13 under total.
New Zealand, who got to within one shot of Australia after a fantastic fight back in round two, faded in the third round and could only manage a combined even par total.
Waikato amateur Mathew Perry was the pick of the home side with a superb four under par 68. Ben Campbell shot even par and the third counting score came from Ryan Fox or Vaughan McCall, who both shot 76s.
Australia, the Trans Tasman Cup, the Nomura Cup and the Southern Cross Cup champions, will go into the final round as hot favourites to claim another piece of silverware.
South Africa remains in third place by one shot from Argentina, 13 shots back from New Zealand.
The Four Nations Cup is an amalgamation of two tournaments the Four Nations (between NZ, Australia, Japan and Canada) and the Southern Cross Cup (between NZ, Australia, South Africa and Argentina) becoming one Stroke Play event.
The four international teams (NZ, Australia, South Africa and Argentina) are made up of four male players with the best three scores counting each day. One round of golf will be played each day for four days.
