Th Phoenix have beaten the Newcastle Jets 2-0 in Wellington in their first home game of the A-League football season.
After starting with a 1-all draw at Gold Coast the Phoenix led 1-0 at halftime and their Brazilian foward Daniel Cortes made sure of the win midway through the second spell.
But the home side lost striker Paul Ifill with a groin injury in the first half and was down to 10 men then nine in the last 10 minutes.
Defender Nick Ward was sent off for fouling in a tackle then the first-half goal scorer Tim Brown got the second red card for time wasting.
