The five time Olympic gold medallist Ian Thorpe has suffered a minor health setback just three weeks out from his racing comeback but still appears certain to be fit for the World Cup swim meet in Singapore.

The 29 year old Australian, has a chest infection as he prepares for the November short course meet, his first competitive swim as he targets an appearance at next year's London Olympics.

The Singapore meet will be the world's first look at Thorpe in racing action since 2006.

While he announced his comeback in February anti-doping regulations meant he couldn't make his competitive return for nine months.
