Power out of Australian V8 race

The Australian Indy Car racer, Will Power, has been ruled out of this weekend's Gold Coast 600 V8 Supercars race after yesterday's tragic Indy Car Series finale in Las Vegas.

His place in the field alongside Mark Winterbottom in the #5 Orrcon Steel FPR Falcon will be taken by Northern Irish International, Richard Lyons.

Power initially walked free from his Penske Racing machine after the 15 car pileup, that claimed the life of 2005 Indy Car series champion Dan Wheldon, before later being taken to the University Medical Centre in Las Vegas complaining of lower back pain.

He was then ruled out of the trip to Australia.

Brazilian Tony Kanaan will also not be making the trek downunder and will be replaced in the Jana Living Commodore by Danish racer, Allan Simonsen - who finished third at Bathurst with Greg Murphy just two weeks ago.

Kanaan, who was leading the Las Vegas finale at the time of the multi-car pileup, was one of many who couldn't hide their distress following the news of Dan Wheldon's passing.

The former Indy Car Champion had been due to partner Jason Bargwanna in the Jana Living Racing machine, however Simonsen, coming in with confidence after a stellar Bathurst 1000, is a more than able replacement.
