F1 champs lead Dan Wheldon tributes

World motor racing champions Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Michael Schumacher have been at the forefront of tributes from formula one drivers mourning the death of the British Indy car champion Dan Wheldon during yesterday's horror crash in Las Vegas.

After waking up to the news Jenson Button paid tribute to Wheldon as a legend in their sport and a great guy with it.

Lewis Hamilton said he'd followed Wheldon throughout his early career as they climbed the motorsport ladder in the UK, and Schumacher lamented as wishful thinking the notion that the sport has become so safe no one has to die anymore.

33 year old Wheldon leaves wife Susie and their two sons, two-year-old Sebastian and seven-month-old Oliver.
