Scrapping relegation akin to suicide - Ferg

English football's most successful manager Sir Alex Ferguson has warned that a future without relegation and promotion from and to the English Premier League would be akin to suicide.

Manchester United's boss was responding to a warning from the chief executive of the League Managers Association, Richard Bevan, that several foreign-based owners of England's top flight clubs want to scrap relegation.

Bevan says overseas owners feel removing the threat of relegation would create more stable and secure conditions for their investments.

Any change to the structure or laws of the Premier League, needs 14 of the 20 clubs to vote in favour.
