Carling tips Mallet for England job

5:05 pm on 19 October 2011

The Former England rugby captain Will Carling expects current England coach Martin Johnson to quit the role, and he's tipping former Springboks coach Nick Mallett to take over.

Johnson's position is under review by the England Rugby Football Union and he has been given until next Tuesday to decide whether to reapply for his position.

Carling says he doubts Johnson will want to continue after a disappointing World Cup campaign in New Zealand.

He says he would rather see Mallett, who was in charge of South Africa from 1997-2000 and Italy until they exited the World Cup, replace Johnson than go back to 2003 World Cup-winning coach Clive Woodward.
