Aussie netballers ready for NZ onslaught

6:13 am on 21 October 2011

Australia's netballers will be on guard for a New Zealand outfit gunning for revenge when the arch rivals lock horns in Perth on Sunday.

The Perth goal shooter Caitlin Bassett etched her name into Australian netball history and, in the process, consigned the Silver Ferns to one of their most painful defeats by scoring the winning goal in extra-time at July's world championships in Singapore.

Sunday's re-match will mark the first time the sides have met since that fateful day, and Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander says her team are bracing themselves for another hard-fought slog.

She believes both countries are at the peak of their powers in terms of their high performance programmes.

Alexander is confident defenders Julie Corletto, Mo'onia Gerrard, and Laura Geitz will recover from niggling injuries in time for Sunday's match, the first of three Tests.
