Lion Tamer put down as Jimmy Choux pipped by Pinker Pinker

Pinker Pinker has won the three point eight million dollar Cox Plate at Moonee Valley while there were contrasting fortunes for New Zealand horses.

Pinker Pinker surged past Jimmy Choux to claim the weight-for-age championship of Australia with the Hastings-trained four-year old second.

But New Zealand's best stayer Lion Tamer had to be put down after breaking a leg. He was an early favourite for the Melbourne Cup.

Heavily backed favourite Helmet was eighth.
