The government's sport and recreation arm, SPARC, is to be renamed.
From next year it will be known as Sport New Zealand.
Sports minister Murray McCully says with the establishment of High Performance Sport New Zealand, which amalgamated SPARC's high perfomance area and the two New Zealand Academies of Sport and a change in SPARC's strategic focus, the name Sport New Zealand better reflects its role.
Mr McCully says Sport NZ will continue to invest in community sport and recreation and build capacity across the entire sector.
SPARC was established in 2003 and evolved from the Hillary Commission.
