Dour Melbourne derby, Sydney post first win

Harry Kewell and Melbourne Victory remain goalless and winless in Australian football's A-League after a 0-0 derby draw with Melbourne Heart at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

After four and a half hours of soccer, the Victory's star-studded attack are yet to find the net - and rarely looked likely to against a Heart side who produced the better chances of a tense match in front of a crowd of nearly 40,000.

Victory goalkeeper Ante Covic was the hero, pulling off four crucial saves to deny Heart - three coming from Heart's ex-Victory midfielder Mate Dugandzic who also starred.

The Heart will at least claim a moral victory, picking up their first point of the season and bouncing back with a far more committed performance than the previous week's loss to Perth.

But there was no upward trajectory for either team's ladder position - the Victory still near the bottom after Sydney FC's earlier 2-1 win over Adelaide, and Heart propping up the competition.

Nicky Carle scored the game-breaker as Sydney FC logged their first win of the A-League season with a 2-1 triumph over Adelaide United.
