Top jockey appealing to ride in Melbourne Cup

There's an anxious day ahead for one of Australia's leading jockeys who's desperate for a successful appeal which will allow him to ride in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup.

Craig Williams was suspended for careless riding during Wednesday's Bendigo Cup, and although he's able to ride on Derby Saturday at Flemington, he's not at this stage free to ride on Cup day.

Williams is attempting to become the first jockey to win the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup in the same year, and he's called on racing officials to take into account the importance of the occasion when they consider their decision.
