Brisbane thump Adelaide to maintain unbeaten run

4:20 pm on 30 October 2011

Albanian international Besart Berisha had a night to remember at Suncorp Stadium as Brisbane embarrassed Adelaide United 7-1 to take their record unbeaten A-League football streak to 32 games.

Berisha, a late off-season signing by Roar coach Ange Postecoglou, scored four goals before being substituted in the 69th minute of Brisbane's spectacular attacking exhibition.

Berisha scored a first-half hat-trick inside six minutes before notching a fourth in the second half to equal New Zealand striker Shane Smeltz's A-League regular-season goal haul for a single game.

Smeltz notched four when playing for Gold Coast United against North Queensland in August, 2009.

Archie Thompson holds the individual one-match record of five goals scored for Melbourne Victory in the 6-0 2006-07 grand final win, also against Adelaide.

The 7-1 margin is just one goal shy of Adelaide's A-League record win of 8-1 against North Queensland last season.

Elsewhere, the Central Coast Mariners saw off Perth Glory 2-1 at their home Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford and Melbourne Heart drew 1-1 with visitors Sydney FC.
