Olympic gold medallist to come out of retirement

The Olympic Games gold medallist Hamish Carter has announced he's coming out of retirement to compete at next month's World Cup triathlon event in Auckland.

It's six years since he last competed in a triathlon but won't be racing in the elite division rather competing in the age group event.

Carter says his motivation isn't winning but rather about inspiring the next generation of triathletes.

He concedes he struggles to reign in his competitive nature and says while he has stayed in reasonable shape believes he's at about ten percent of his peak racing fitness.
