Phoenix defender gets one match ban

6:44 am on 1 November 2011

Ben Sigmund's mandatory one-match ban will stand after the Wellington Phoenix defender received a red card in the club's 2-1 loss to Melbourne Victory on Sunday.

The A-League match review panel considered the incident and found that Sigmund "denied the opposing team a clear goal-scoring opportunity".

Sigmund's offence led to a penalty which sealed the match for the Victory.

But he has until midday today to decide if he wants to take the matter to the FFA disciplinary committee.
