New Wellington Lions coach appointed

Chris Boyd has been appointed as the new head coach of the Wellington provincial rugby team.

Boyd comes to the post from his last job as skills and defensive coach with Tonga at the World Cup. He spent four years as coach John Plumtree's assistant with the Lions from 2003 to 2006.

Boyd began his career with 10 years at his club Tawa, before moving on to Wellington B then working at the New Zealand Academy of Sport for two years, adding two more years with the Sharks in South Africa.

His most recent New Zealand stint was as assistant coach to the World Champion under-20 side.
