NZ Football chairman appointed to head up FIFA taskforce

The chairman of New Zealand Football Frank Van Hattum is to jointly lead one of four task forces created to reform football's governing body FIFA.

Van Hattum will jointly lead the Transparency and Compliance taskforce, one of four announced by FIFA President Sepp Blatter last week, as part of a series of measures to ensure good governance, transparency and zero tolerance for wrongdoing on or off the pitch.

The four groups have been formed following the cash for votes scandal surrounding the awarding of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.

Van Hattum says it's an honour and responsibility to be involved in the reform process.

He says FIFA has been tarnished by the actions of a few, but there's a strong commitment from the worldwide football family to improve processes and add greater transparency.

The first reform proposals from the task forces will be discussed at the next FIFA Executive Committee meeting in Tokyo next month.
