The New Zealand rugby union says it's confident All Blacks coach Graham Henry won't be lost overseas but is yet clarify his future role in the game here.

Henry announced he was stepping down last week after eight years in the job.

Henry's been linked with a move to England while a mentoring role with top level coaches in New Zealand has also been mentioned, but chief executive of New Zealand rugby Steve Tew says discussions on that haven't progressed.

Tew says that is a discussion to have in the medium term with Henry contracted to them until March however he's confident a role of Henry will be found in the union's coach development programme.

Henry will head to England later this month to coach the Barbarians against Australia.
