The Australian swimmer Ian Thorpe has missed out on making another final after failing to get past the 100 metres butterfly heats at the World Cup meet in Beijing.
Thorpe, was 13th fastest in the heats and more than two seconds behind the fastest qualifier Kosuke Hagino of Japan.
Australia's greatest Olympian has had a frustrating time in China, failing to reach the 100m individual medley final and the final of his specialist event the 100m freestyle.
He's expected to contest the same three events at the World Cup round in Tokyo later this week as he prepares for the London Olympic trials in March.
