Latest deadline looms for NBA contract talks

6:42 pm on 9 November 2011

NBA players won't accept the latest contract offer from owners, but will try to meet them again before tomorrow's deadline to try to avert the cancellation of more games.

The executive director of the NBA Players Association says the players find the proposal unacceptable.

Hunter says he understands the league is prepared to cancel games through Christmas if no deal is reached by then, with a month of games having already been cancelled in a season that was to have started on November 1st.

A key issue in the labour dispute remains the division of $5 billion in annual revenue.

Players received 57 per cent of basketball-related income under their previous contract, but have said they're willing to drop that to 52.5 per cent.

The latest offer from owners is 49 to 51 per cent, depending on revenue growth.
