New Zealand's champion shot-puter Valerie Adams could add another honour to her resume this weekend when the IAAF announce their athletes of the year.
The 27-year-old defended her Shot Put World Championships title in Daegu this year as well as setting a National and Area record of 21.24 metres, the longest throw in 11 years... and remained undefeated in 16 finals.
She's up against Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya, who became only the second woman ever to win the 5000 and 10,000m World Championships double..... and Sally Pearson of Australia who won the 100m Hurdles title in Daegu with the fastest time in 19 years
For the first time in the history of the World Athletics Gala, two women from Oceania are among the finalists.
Whoever wins on Sunday, it will be a first as no other Australian or New Zealander has ever won the World Athlete of the Year title since the Award was introduced back in 1988.
Adams was also a finalist in 2009.
The men's finalists are the Jamaican sprinters Yohan Blake and Usain Bolt and the Kenyan middle distance runner David Rudisha.
