Whincup tightens grip on V8 title

The Holden driver Jamie Whincup stepped up his march towards the V8 Supercar title after he whitewashed the Tasmania Challenge at Symmons Plains.

With victory in both races, Whincup has increased his series lead over Team Vodafone stablemate Craig Lowndes to 194 points.

They are the only two in the field who can take the crown but there are a total of 600 points on offer in the closing two rounds, at Sandown next week and at the Sydney finale.

Whincup says he's far from confident that he amassed a winning edge with Holden's 400th Supercar win on Sunday but said he would be shattered if he lost the championship.
