NZ women win first up in Hong Kong

New Zealand's top two ranked women's squash players have won their opening round matches at the lucrative Hong Kong Open.

9th seed Joelle King beat a Japanese qualifier 3-1 and will now play Annie Au of Hong Kong in the second round, while 12th seed Jaclyn Hawks beat Tania Bailey of England 3-nil, and will play third seed Rachel Grinham of Australia.

The third New Zealander, Kylie Lindsay, lost her first round encounter with Malaysian 13th seed Low Wee Wern.

The Waikato player went down 11-4 11-4 11-7 in 29 minutes.

The only New Zealander in the men's draw, Martin Knight, was beaten 3-0 in the first round by world number one Nick Matthew of England.
