The former Italy and South Africa rugby coach Nick Mallett has ruled himself out as a contender for the job of England head coach after Martin Johnson resigned.
Mallett says the RFU contacted him earlier this week to enquire about his availability for the position, should Martin Johnson resign.
He says he'd previously expressed an interest in the position, but after mulling it over for a few days and discussing the opportunity with close friends and family, he's decided not to make himself available.
Mallett says his primary concern was his family, who after four years in Italy, have now settled in Cape Town.
Johnson resigned after England's disappointing World Cup campaign in New Zealand this year when they were knocked out in the quarter-finals and attracted unwelcome publicity for a series of off-field incidents.
