Wellington's Andy McKay and Jeetan Patel, along with Northern Districts' Graeme Aldridge, have been dropped from the New Zealand cricket team for the two-Test series against Australia.

The trio were part of the Black Caps side which toured Zimbabwe recently although Patel was the only one who played in the one-off Test, which New Zealand won by 34 runs.

The 13-strong squad for the Australia series includes fast bowler Tim Southee and batsman Jesse Ryder, who return from injury.

The uncapped Northern Districts left arm pace bowler Trent Boult has also been named in the side.

New Zealand Cricket's national selection manager Kim Littlejohn says they'll consider adding another seam bowler before the first Test, depending on the how the players come through the four-day warmup match against Australia A starting in Brisbane, which starts Friday week.

The Northern Districts batsman BJ Watling will remain in New Zealand to play against Otago in the third round of Plunket Shield and will join the team on the opening day of the warmup match.

The first Test starts at the Gabba in Brisbane on December 1st, with the second in Hobart beginning on December 9th.
