Australia wins Four Nations title

12:55 pm on 20 November 2011

The Kangaroos have sent captain Darren Lockyer into retirement with a Four Nations rugby league medal in his back pocket after sealing a well-deserved 30-8 win over England in Leeds.

Lockyer, in the final game of a glittering 17-year career, was at his brilliant best and capped his farewell with a try in the last minute.

Although he was eclipsed by the magnificent Johnathan Thurston, who scored a try and kicked four goals, the skipper's kicking game and calm head caused England problems all night, in front of a vocal sell-out crowd of more than 34,000.

Australia led just 8-6 at half-time.
