New Zealand fail to defend Fastnet title

1:51 pm on 28 November 2011

The Silver Ferns coach Wai Taumaunu admits one poor powerplay cost them in this morning's Fastnet World Series final against England in Liverpool.

The homeside ended the New Zealanders hopes of a threepeat with a 33-26 victory.

The Ferns lead throughout much of the match but Taumaunu says they had a bad third quarter when the English were on their powerplay and goals counted for double.

New Zealand won the first two Fastnet World Series, also held in England, and will be looking to avenge this morning's loss and reclaim their title when the competition heads to New Zealand for the next three years, with the first event to be held in November 2012.
