Family comes first for Maloney

4:59 pm on 29 November 2011

The Warriors playmaker James Maloney says family is his first priority and that played the biggest part in his decision to return home to Australia.

Maloney will leave the Warriors after next year's National Rugby League season, and yesterday the Roosters announced they'd signed the 25-year-old to a 3-year deal starting in 2013.

Maloney, a standout performer as the Warriors reached this year's grand final, says the Auckland side made him a very good offer to stay, but with his second child on the way, they wanted to be closer to family....

There has been speculation that Maloney could move to Sydney next year, but the Warriors have denied that... and Maloney says he's looking forward to next year...

25-year-old five eighth Maloney is seen by the Roosters as an ideal halves partner for NSW Origin halfback Mitchell Pearce.
