The young Tauranga racing driver, Richie Stanaway, has topped the timesheets during a so-called champions test session for the Renault World 3 point 5 series in Spain.
The 20-year-old Stanaway, this year's German Formula Three champion, was fastest in both morning and afternoon sessions.
Drivers taking part included the top placegetters in this year's British, Japanese, Italian and Euro Formula Three series, and the winners of national Formula Renault competitions in Europe.
The tests continue for two more days.
