Black Caps full of confidence

4:59 pm on 29 November 2011

The New Zealand cricketers confidence ahead of the opening test against Australia is probably justified following a good workout against Australia A and with the homeside having so many injuries.

The Black Caps are hoping to record their first victory over Australia in almost 20 years and their chances have improved with the withdrawal of five Australian players due to injuries sustained in South Africa.

Medium pace bowler Doug Bracewell, who scored a swashbuckling 73 not out at the weekend, says he can't wait to get the ball in his hand.

New Zealand haven't won across the Tasman since 1985, when they won their only series in Australia.

Meanwhile under pressure Australian batsman Ricky Ponting believes a big score isn't far away.

Ponting, who'll turn 37 next month, hasn't scored a test ton in almost 2 years.... and he knows his future is bleak if he doesn't perform in this series....
