Black Caps batsmen at fault but fielding not much better

10:14 am on 5 December 2011

The New Zealand batsmen must shoulder the blame for the humiliating 9 wicket loss to Australia in the first test but the Black Caps fielding also left a lot to be desired, dropping a host of catches which the home side's batsmen took full advantage of at the Gabba.

While the New Zealand batsmen were horrendous in Brisbane, the Black Caps were also sloppy in the field, dropping several catches including Australian captain Michael Clarke twice on his way to a first innings century.

Captain Ross Taylor knows the Black Caps woeful batting is far from their only concern after the abysmal performance in Brisbane.

Meanwhile the Black Caps have called Northern Districts paceman Brent Arnel into the squad for the second and final test starting in Hobart in Friday.
