McCullum needs to make a change says Turner

The former New Zealand cricket captain, coach and selector, Glenn Turner, says opener Brendon McCullum should be dropped down the batting order as his style of play has consistently proved unsuitable for test macth cricket.

McCullum wasn't the worst in the Black Caps woeful batting performance in the first test loss to Australia at the Gabba, but with innings of 34 and 1 he hardly set the world alight, and threw away his wicket in the second innings with another poorly chosen shot.

With patience and dogged concentration essential qualities for an opening test batsman Turner says McCullum and his risky style would be better suited lower in the Black Caps order.

Turner says McCullum should be given the wicket-keeping duties and dropped down the order to six or seven, pushing Reece Young out of the test 11.
