The 16 year old Auckland shot putter Jacko Gill has set a national record and surpassed the London Olympic Games qualifying mark with a throw of 20.38 metres at an athletics meeting, on the North Shore this evening.

Gill added 37 centimetres to the national record he set in April.

The mark is also a new World's best for athletes aged 16 and 17.

Gill was too young to compete at this year's World champs in Korea but tonight's performance, would have qualified him for the final and placed him 8th overall.
