The New Zealand cyclist Julian Dean has a lifeline to a seventh Tour de France after his new Australian team GreenEDGE was granted a first division license by the sport's governing body the UCI.

GreenEdge and American team RadioShack were given the last two spots on the elite roster for next year which gives them automatic entry to all the major races.

Meanwhile Dean has been forced off his bike for a couple of weeks after injurying his shoulder after a training crash with the GreenEDGE team in Thredbo.
