Hamilton V8s set to be last Supercar race in NZ

Motor racing fans are being warned to expect the final edition of the Hamilton 400 V8 Supercar series to be the last of the Australian event to be staged here.

V8 Supercars chairman Tony Cochrane isn't giving up hope the race in April won't be the end after 12 years - but costs, a failed promoter, politics and resource consent issues look set to sink the New Zealand leg of the series.

Cochrane says they're not fair weather friends and the Hamilton race has probably cost them between Australian $3.5 million and $4 million that they've had to write off.

He says another edition of the V8 Supercars race here is very unlikely - he's got until about May next year to make it work.
