The former champion New Zealand jockey Lisa Cropp has been stood down after returning an irregularity result from a drugs test taken on the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

Cropp was stood down from her four rides yesterday at the Sale meeting in country Victoria, after her urine sample showed the presence of Zopiclone, a treatment for insomnia which is a prohibited substance.

It's understood Cropp has taken the drug for some time, but she forgot to list it as a prescribed substance she was taking when asked by Racing Victoria stewards.

She's also had to forego 12 rides over the next three days.
