New Zealand's chances of making the Champions Trophy final have slumped after a 3-2 loss to Spain at the North Harbour Hockey Stadium.

The Black Sticks must now beat Australia on Saturday evening in their second match in the top four semi-final series.

Australia's through to Sunday's final with a game in hand after a 4-2 win over the Netherlands, who could still make the final by beating Spain.

But Black Sticks coach Shane McLeod isn't resigned to playing playing Spain again for third or fouth,

Shane McLeod says Australia will be tough but the Black Sticks will take heart from a recent win and a draw in the Oceania Cup.
