Hawaiian John John Florence edged closer to securing the Triple Crown with a pair of dominant displays at his home break at the Pipeline Masters surfing event.
The 19-year-old posted a near-perfect 19.10 to crush Damien Hobgood in the third round, before pulling out a ten-point ride in a non-elimination fourth-round victory over world champion Kelly Slater.
Slater rebounded to beat Kalani Chapman in the fifth round to set up a re-match with Florence in the quarter-finals.
Australian Joel Parkinson also progressed through to the last eight, where he will meet local Jamie O'Brien.
Kieren Perrow beat fellow Aussie Taj Burrow and Hawaiian Shane Dorian to set up a quarter-final match-up with Gabriel Medina, with Michel Bourez and Evan Valierein meeting in the last of the quarters.
