The Hampton Downs raceway outside Auckland is set to table a proposal to save the New Zealand leg of Australia's V8 Supercar race, which is to be staged for the last time in Hamilton next April.

The 2012 Hamilton 400 was launched Wednesday with Supercars chairman Tony Cochrane pessimistic about the chances of another race in 2013.

But Hampton Downs says it has resource consent to extend the track to longer than the current Hamilton track at 3.8 kilometres, and the organisation also wants to more than triple spectator capacity to more than 60-thousand.

Managing Director of Hampton Downs Tony Roberts says they've been working with a consortium of financial advisors, planners and investors for the past year analysing potential track operations and the future for a motorsport-focused business park.

Debt remains an issue but a spokesman says they're confident they'll be able to get funding in place to make a commercially viable proposal to V8 Supercars in the first financial quarter of next year.
