Australia poised for victory in Hobart

6:30 am on 12 December 2011

Rain wiped out the final session on day three of the second Australia-New Zealand cricket test in Hobart yesterday, but the home side is poised for victory with two days to play.

The Black Caps started the day with high hopes of a rare victory on Australian soil, but they crumbled in their second innings from 139 for 3, to 226 all out.

The out-of-form Australian opening batsman Phil Hughes got a lucky break after an appeal for a catch behind, before he'd scored, was turned down.

Captain Ross Taylor decided not to review the decision, before replays showed Hughes should have been given out.

Australia are 72 without loss needing 241 to win the second test and the series 2-0.
