The Chinese Superleague football club Shanghai Shenhua is chasing the signature of Didier Drogba having pulled off a ground-breaking deal with Drogba's Chelsea teammate Nicolas Anelka.
The French striker Anelka will become the biggest name to ply his trade in the world's most populous nation when he joins Shanghai on New Years Day on a two-year deal.
Some media reports have suggested Anelka will more than double his current weekly salary to 400-thousand dollars.
The club also also expects the former Bordeaux coach Jean Tigana to arrive next month as manager.
