Bike NZ has expressed its disappointment if PureBlack Racing is unable to continue.
In a statement released yesterday PureBlack Racing announced that a lack of sponsorship funding had resulted in them curtailing plans to compete in Europe in 2012.
BikeNZ CEO Kieran Turner says New Zealand cyclists will lose a valuable pathway to international road racing success if the team is forced out.
Turner says PureBlack Racing provided much more than just a moving billboard... they developed fantastic leadership and an all-round development experience for its athletes and partners.
He says its a shame that the current New Zealand market does not fully understand the worldwide scale of cycling and how great the reach and return is compared to other sports.
