Hughes facing the axe

8:15 am on 13 December 2011

The Australian opener Philip Hughes is facing the axe after his side's shock loss to New Zealand in the second cricket test in Hobart yesterday.

Australia were beaten by 7 runs after losing their last 8 wickets for 74.

Hughes has scored just 41 runs in 4 innings in the series.

Captain Michael Clarke says he's one of a number of players under pressure heading into the series against India....

meanwhile Worcestershire have signed Hughes for his third stint in English county cricket.

Hughes has had previous spells with Middlesex in 2009 and Hampshire in 2010.
