Aussie cricket crisis declared after New Zealand defeat

6:39 pm on 13 December 2011

Australian cricket writers have reacted with a wave of panic after the first home test loss to New Zealand in 26 years and with a series against India just a fortnight away.

Headlines such as "Black Monday", and "Lowest of the Low" followed the Black Caps seven run win Hobart.

Sydney's Daily Telegraph says the Australians, once the kings of world cricket, are no longer capable of putting away eighth-ranked New Zealand and are in disarray heading into the four test series against India,

The thrilling end the match was largely forgotten in a chorus of calls for change, with The Australian dismissing New Zealand as earnest but ordinary and the Melbnourne Age declaring the Indians as favourites to win their first series in Australia.
