NZRU concedes coaching vacuum

6:57 am on 18 December 2011

The New Zealand Rugby Union concedes there was a vacuum when it came to appointing a successor for retiring All Blacks coach Graham Henry but is confident it has a robust succession plan in place.

As expected Steve Hansen was announced as Henry's successor on Friday, with Hansen the only candidate reaching the final interview stage which was carried out by the NZRU board.

The chief executive of the NZRU Steve Tew says it would have been a good to have another couple of leading candidates but he's confident next time there will be.
