The New Zealand sailors will be the first athletes named in the expected 200-strong team for next year's London Olympics with the first members of the New Zealand contingent to be announced on Wednesday.

The sailors qualified 9 of the 10 Olympic classes for London after the completion of the world champs off Perth last night bagging silver in the men's laser and bronze in the women's 470 and men's 49er's on the final day of competition.

The most intriguing Olympic selection dilema comes in the men's boardsailing where JP Tobin and Beijing gold medallist Tom Ashley are fighting it our for one spot in London.

Tobin finished fifth and Ashley sixth at the world champs and while Yacthing New Zealand won't put names to Olympic places until Wednesday, last night's result was significant.
