Bronze statue of Warne unveiled at MCG

Shane Warne's presence at the Melbourne Cricket Ground is no longer just a memory.

A statue of Australia's leading test wicket taker has been unveiled at the ground which he called his backyard.

And rather than the new made for magazines version with the perma-tan and shiny white teeth, the statue is of the old Warnie and depicts him bowling a leg break, but also also carrying a few things he no longer has namely an earring, a mullet and a paunch.

Warne unveiled the statue and says it while was odd seeing himself cast in bronze he was also very proud.

He joins fellow cricketing greats Don Bradman, Keith Miller, Bill Ponsford and Dennis Lillee, Olympic athletes Betty Cuthbert and Shirley Strickland and AFL footballers Haydn Bunton, Leigh Matthews, Ron Barassi and Dick Reynolds as statues at the ground.
