Oldest competitor wins the elite men's time trial at nationals

The oldest competitior in the field, Paul Odlin, has won the men's individual time trial at the elite national road cycling championships.

The 33-year-old covered the 40-kilometre journey at Lincoln in 49 minutes and 35 seconds to edge his pro team-mate Sam Horgan by 21 seconds.

Earlier world track championship medallist Lauren Ellis from Mid Canterbury won the women's individual time trail..

New Zealand team pursuit team mates, Jamie Nielsen and Alison Shanks finished second and third respectively.

Ellis won the event in 35 minutes and 21 seconds, 27 seconds quicker than Nielsen.
