The Australian superbike racer Dan Stauffer has won the New Zealand Grand Prix at Ruapuna admidst controversy.

The race was run in two parts because a crash forced organisers to stop it after five laps.

Stauffer, on a borrowed Yahama, finished second in both parts and was declared the race winner on points.

Nine-times New Zealand superbike champion Andrew Stroud won the second part of the GP on his Suzuki but then was disqualified for not completing enough laps in the first race after he crashed.

Two Suzuki riders, Craig Shirriffs of Fielding and Christchurch's James Smith, finished second and third respectively.
