Bay of Plenty's Sean Horan has been appointed to the newly created role of head coach of the New Zealand women's sevens team.

Horan has coached Bay of Plenty in the provincial rugby competition, the ITM Cup, for the past three seasons.

He has also had resource coaching roles with the Black Ferns and women's sevens team.

The New Zealand Rugby Union is working towards the 2016 Olympics, where both men's and women's sevens will feature, and SPARC investment has allowed the creation of a fulltime women's coach.
